Betty Jean Hale, 80, of Burlington, died at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Great River Hospice House. Born Jan. 10, 1927, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Ivan and Edna Fleming Roasa. On July 10, 1947, she married Paul Hale at the Registry in Burlington. He died on April 7, 1998. Mrs. Hale worked as a cook for several local establishments. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Eagles, Moose and VFW auxiliaries. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, dancing and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Survivors include three sons, Garry Hale of Louisiana, Terry Hale of Dallas, Ore., and Kerry Hale of Oakville; one daughter, Paula Mayhugh of Mediapolis; five grandchildren; two brothers, Merlin Roasa of Arizona, Don Roasa of Burlington; and one sister, Dee Sherman of Sperry. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Hale will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
