Charles W. Hahn, 82, of Burlington, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Zearing. Born Nov. 4, 1917, in Sigourney, he was the son of Walter Augustus and Mary Azuba Strong Hahn. He married Lanora Mae Smith on Feb. 2, 1946, in Portsmouth, Va. Mr. Hahn was a graduate of Sigourney High School and received his doctorate in educational administration from the University of Iowa in 1964. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. He was superintendent of schools for the Burlington School District for 15 years, from 1964 to 1979. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Burlington, and a past member of Burlington Kiwanis Club, Masons, Shriners, Iowa State Education Association, American Association of School Administrators, and Iowa Association of School Administrators. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy Hested of Story City; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hahn will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and Shriners Hospital for Crippled or Burned Children.
