Obituary

Velma "Franny" Hagemeier, 69, of West Burlington, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec.7, 2000, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born Oct. 22, 1931, in Illinois, she was the daughter of George and Violet Duncan Ford. On May 8, 1957, she married La Vern Hagemeier in Burlington. He died July 22, 1975. Mrs. Hagemeier was a postal worker for 14 years, retiring in 1996. She also worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She was a graduate of Muscatine High School, was of the Methodist faith, and a member of Postal Workers Union. She was a sponsor for Hope Haven and other charitable organizations. Survivors include one son, Ron Hagemeier of West Burlington; one daughter, Marilee Hagemeier of Iowa City; her mother of Industry, Ill.; two sisters, Dorothy Beeding of Muscatine and Mary Wilson of Industry; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and her mother-in-law. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Hagemeier will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Dutzer officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Gove Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established.
