Mary "Frances" Hacker, 100, of Burlington, died at 10:13 PM Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center.
Born May 13, 1916, in Des Moines Co., she was the daughter of Joseph Raymond and Mollie Gertrude Groeltz Eversman. On February 20, 1941, she married George E. Hacker in Burlington. He died on June 27, 1978.
Frances was a teacher in a one room school house. She worked as a home health aide and delivered the Hawk Eye for a time.
She was a graduate of SCC.
She was a member of St. Paul Women's Guild, the Friendly Neighbors Club, and SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She loved to garden, play pinochle, and any other card or board game. She was a master at crossword puzzles. She always loved a good joke too. She was simply the best.
Survivors include two sons, Alan (Betty) Hacker of Burlington, & Paul E. Hacker of Austin, TX; two sisters, Pauline Olson & Theresa Graham both of Lacombe, Alberta Canada; four grandchildren, Julie Cavender, Crystal Bivens, Travis Magee and Damon Bowman; five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Alli, & Braylyn Bivens, Jackson & Willa Bowman; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Lois Martin, two brothers, Louis Eversman & Bill Eversman.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Hacker will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Paul's Church Hall following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, Great River Hospice and the Notre Dame High School.
