David Lee Haas, 71, of Burlington died at 12:37 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 1, 1941 in Burlington, he was the son of Marvin "Bud" and Clara Behtz Haas. On November 15, 1969 he married Carol Crawford Piper at West Hill United Methodist Church in Burlington.
Dave was a Navy veteran serving as a boilermaker during the time of the Bay of Pigs. He was the owner/operator of Pioneer Glass Co. in Fort Madison for many years before selling in 1997 and moving to Burlington where he sold real estate and was involved with property maintenance until retiring in 2012.
Dave was a member of Moose Lodge #579 and the Hy-Vee Liars Club. He enjoyed dancing at the Moose and stock car, NASCAR and sprint racing. For 20 years straight he attended the Daytona 500.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carol Haas of Burlington; one son, Todd Piper of Des Moines; one grandson, Chad Piper; one great grandson, Jeffery Piper; one brother, Edward Haas of Burlington and one sister, Judith Rosipajla of Castle Rock, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Piper and brother, Dale Haas.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
