Carol K. Haas, 75, of Burlington, left this earthly world on May 13, 2016 at 4:38 p.m.
Born November 30, 1940 in Winfield, Henry County, she was the eldest daughter of Dean R. and Vada M. (Fetters) Crawford. She married Larry Piper in 1958; they had three children Kimberly Kay Piper (Mark) Hellige, Jeffrey Wayne Piper and Todd Alan (Tammy) Piper. They later divorced in 1964. She then married David Lee Haas in 1971.
They lived in Fort Madison before moving to Burlington when they sold Pioneer Glass Co. Dave passed away in 2012.
Carol worked at Winegard before her marriage to Dave. After moving to Burlington she worked at K-Mart, B. G.'s and Jet Stop Convenience Stores. She retired in 2010.
Carol enjoyed going to the Daytona 500 every year. She loved camping with family and friends and loved to ballroom and country line dance. She loved gardening, crocheting and sitting in the back yard around the pond, having a beer and enjoying the Koi, family and friends.
Carol is survived by one daughter Kimberly Piper (Mark) Hellige of Ottumwa; a son, Todd Alan (Tammy) Piper of Fort Madison; three grandsons, Chad Piper, Drew Hellige, Dirk (Shannon) Hellige; one granddaughter, Breanna Rosas; great grandson, Jeffrey Alan Piper; great granddaughter, Cordelia Chapman; sister, Elaine Beauchamp of Des Moines; brother, Steven (Laura) Crawford of Stronghurst; sister, Sharon Crawford of Burlington; brother in law, Ed Haas; sister in law, Arlene Haas; sister in law Judy and brother in law, Bob; sister in law, Twyla Crawford, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her special dog, Levi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, son, Jeffrey Piper, brother, Bob Crawford, brother-in-law, Dale Haas, paternal and maternal grandparents.
The funeral service for Mrs. Haas will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Chris Carr will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 16th at Lunning Chapel. A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
