Robert A. Gustafson, 86, of Heartland Health Care Center in Moline, Ill., formerly of Rock Island, Ill., died Tuesday, October 13, 1998, at the care center. Born March 28, 1912, in West Burlington, he was the son of Arvid Frank and Teckla Christina Anderson Gustafson. He married Ruth Meyer on July 25, 1936, in Burlington. She died August 5, 1989. Mr. Gustafson was a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1971. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. Survivors include one sister, Doris Johnsen of Rock Island, Ill.; one niece, Kristine Decker of Port Byron; and one nephew, Randy Johnsen of Madrid. There will be no visitation. The graveside service for Mr. Gustafson will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Wheeland Funeral Home in Rock Island is in charge of arrangements.
