Eileen Gugeler, 88, of Burlington died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007, at Rosebush Health Center in Burlington. Born Nov. 12, 1918, in Smithshire, IL., she was the daughter of John Edward and Winnie Johnson dark. On April 25, 1942, she married Howard Albert Gugelar in Canton, Mo. He died July 1, 2001. She worked for the Burlington Glove Factory, traveled with her husband when he was stationed in the Army, and retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, where she was a secretary. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1938. She enjoyed baking and crocheting. As an accomplished seamstress and dancer, she made many of the outfits she wore for Circle B Square Dance events. She enjoyed traveling overseas and motorcycling with her husband. Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Schmeiser of Burlington; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Visitation with family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Gugeler will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First Christian Church and GRMC Hospice programs.
