Minnie Mae Porter, 58, of Burlington, died at 9:34 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born May 18, 1952, in Osceola, Ark., she was the daughter of Sank and Sarah Mae Booth Tafer. On November 26, 1971, she married Wilson Porter, Sr. in Luxora, Ark. Mrs. Porter worked in production at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, and at General Electric in West Burlington. She graduated from high school in Luxora in 1970. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She enjoyed family gatherings, shopping at Salvation Army Thrift Store, electronics, singing, dancing, and missionary work. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Tammy Turner of Burlington, and Angela Patton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four sons, Anthony Porter of Springfield, MO, Calvin Porter and Wilson Porter, Jr., both of Burlington, and Bryant Porter of New London; 24 grandchildren; two brothers, Danny Thomas of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tandy Williams of Luxora; four sisters, Gloria Garth and Norie Jacobs, both of Osceola, Wardean Wyatt of St. Louis, MO, and Roberta Booth of Luxora; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mrs. Porter will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Burlington, with the Rev. Fred Starling officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
