Doris Mae Ghrist, 67, of Davenport died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, in Davenport. Born Jan. 4,1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Eugene A. and Frances M. Cronk Gallagher. On July 30, 1956, she married Billy Ghrist in Burlington. Mrs. Ghrist was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bettendorf, where she was in the church choir, Bible Study Fellowship and was a Senior Ladies Sunday school teacher. She wrote stories and lyrics to songs. She loved to quilt and travel and was an avid Green Bay Packers football fan. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Debra Lynn Abdul-Masih of Eldridge; three grandchildren; and six sisters, Jeanne H. Bolander of San Antonio, Joyce A. Hester, Delores K. Sattler and Mary F. Fanning, all of Burlington, Linda A. Allely of Huntsville, Ala., Susan L. Philpott of West Burlington; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and two sisters. The funeral for Mrs. Ghrist will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 3593 Middle Road, Bettendorf. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service Monday. Graveside committal services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington with the Rev. Stephen Zahare officiating. A memorial has been established.
