Obituary
Douglas S. Grinde, 72, of Burlington, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born April 30, 1928, in Iowa Falls, he was the son of Sigvald and Agnes McNab Grinde. On June 15, 1950, he married Mary Ann Hoye in Estherville. Mr. Grinde began his banking career at Peoples Bank and Trust in Cedar Rapids in October 1951, was executive vice president of Bettendorf Bank and Trust from 1965 to 1967, and was president of Burlington Bank and Trust for 25 years, retiring December 1992. He was raised in Estherville. He served in the Marine Corps after high school, and was a 1951 graduate of the University of Iowa, and a 1960 graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking. He was the current chairman of Great River Banshares Corp., and a board member of Henry County Bank. He was a past president of Rotary, on the board of Burlington Medical Center for 21 years, was the first president of CBD Inc., past president of the YMCA board, council finance chairman for the Boy Scouts, past campaign chairman and president of United Way, a member of BADCO, a member of the fund-raising team for the expansion of Hope Haven Develop- ment Center, and was chairman of the citizens pool committee which engineered a successful bond issue to build the city/swimming pool at Burlington High School in 1975. He was a member of Burlington Golf Club and First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing, and was a steadfast Hawkeye football fan. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol Lagneaux of Cedar Rapids, and Cathy Vickroy of Norwalk; one son, David Grinde of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; his stepmother; and one stepsister. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Grinde will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
