Born September 20, 1935 in Alpine, Texas, he was the son of Frank and Sara Hull Griffith. Due to his father's job with the railroad, Charlie moved quite often, growing up mostly in Illinois. When Charlie was 14, he borrowed his cousin's birth certificate and enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. After the Air Force, he then enlisted in the Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his second tour of duty in Vietnam, Charlie received major wounds at the fighting at Plei Me. After spending a year in the hospital and recovering, he moved to Burlington where he started driving trucks for a living which he did for 35 years. He worked for C&E Furniture, Dohrn Transfer Company, Roadway, Arledge Transfer, Burlington Truck, Sterum Freight and a Hannibal-Quincy line.
Charlie was an avid motorcycle rider and owned a Harley for many years. He also enjoyed model railroads, reading westerns, country western music and television.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, with Charlie being the last of his family.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Charlie will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 6th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating.
