Obituary
James "J.W." Wootten, 83, of Chaska, Minn., formerly of Burlington, died at his home on Saturday, June 30, 2007. Born in 1924, he was the only child of Clara and Paul Wootten. Jim served on a B-24 as a tail gunner stationed in Europe during World War II. He retired as a machinist from the railroad shops in West Burlington. J.W. was always devoted and proud of "his girls". During his last years he loved reading at least 3 newspapers a day, watching WGN news at 9 p.m., taking walks, reading westerns and was always ready to go anywhere, especially out to eat. A perfect day was eating out all 3 meals with Hattie. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Harriet (Meck); two daughters, Cindy Wootten and Martha (Jim) Brannon; two grandchildren, William and Molly; and cousins. A gathering of family and friends will be held on July 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Luke United Church of Christ in Burlington. Memorials to St. Luke UCC, 1403 South Street, Burlington, Iowa 52601. Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.
