Obituary
Born Mabel Crosley in Burlington, Iowa, on January 7, 1911, Margaret Hall died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 14, 2006, at the age of 95 in Studio City, California. She was a hard working woman who had various positions in her life such as owning an ice cream store, as Field Plant Inspector at Ovson Eggs in Davenport, Iowa, and finally at Zody's department store in North Hollywood until her retirement. Throughout the years, Mabel enjoyed life while raising four children and living in numerous places like her beloved Indianapolis, Indiana, until she finally settled in Los Angeles, California, in the 1960's. She will be remembered for her beautiful crocheted afghans which she made for her family and friends as well as donating them to the homeless of Los Angeles and for her abilities as a seamstress making formal gowns and dresses for her daughter Mary. She was a good cook, with her specialities being her famous chili and homemade fudge, grilled cheese sandwiches, tacos and her angel food cake with pink frosting. She liked to read, with Emily Dickinson and Truman Capote among her favorites, as well as watch television. Lawrence Welk was one of her many favorite TV shows which she watched in her big chair with her cats sitting on her lap. Musically, she loved the Beatles, Bette Midler, Andy Gibb and the Inkspots and her favorite film was "A Streetcar Name Desire". Laughter was always prevalent in her house, especially when playing poker with family around the dining table. She was preceded in death by three of her children, Mary Griffin, Robert Gray and Angela Hall as well as one grandson, Charles Gray. She is survived by her son Richard Gray, from her second marriage to the devoted and loving Harold Gray, as well as granddaughter Kathy Griffin and grandsons Michael Gray and Richard Gray. Additional survivors include her nephews, Tom, Alan, Ken, Jim and Roy Crosley as well as cousin Betty Schuff Her laughter never stopped and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her throughout her life. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Hall will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in Prugh's Chapel. Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
