Joan Iris Gosling, 86, of Burlington, died at 10:16 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Geat River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born December 20, 1922, in Teignmouth, England, she was the daughter of Albert and Florence whitton Bailey. On June 13, 1942, she married Donald W. Gosling in Teignmouth. Mrs. Gosling was a homemaker, and worked at Clark's Drug Store and Kron's Drug Store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Square-N-Aders square dance club. She was a fan of baseball, NASCAR and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed camping, traveling, knitting and cross stitching. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Shirley Horn of Smithville, Tenn.; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Bailey and Frederick Bailey, both of England; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlingto, where family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Gosling will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for the Steamboat Senior Center in Burlington.
