Mary Grace Goodwin, 86, of Burlington, died at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at her home. Born October 6, 1922, in Newell, she was the daughter of George Oscar and Rosina Estella Splitgerber Schofield. On July 1, 1939, she married Gordon Ray Goodwin in Olathe, Kansas. He died September 25, 1988. Mrs. Goodwin worked at Midwest Biscuit, Campbell Chain, Sylvania, and retired from IRC. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and animals. Survivors include one son, Ervin Goodwin of Pontoosuc, IL; two daughters, Brenda Huston of Burlington, and Bonnie Hill of Terlinqua, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Schofield of Kansas City, MO, and Lester Schofield of Clinton; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke United Church of Christ in Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Goodwin will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Vicki J. Engelmann officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
