Henry "Hank" F. Gibbs, 71, of Burlington died at 8:21 PM Monday, March 12, 2007 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Born June 23, 1935 in Burlington, he was the son of John and Ida Ryder Gibbs. On May 30, 1953, he married Leona Rust in San Diego, California. Mr. Gibbs retired as a buyer for Miller Beauty Supply Inc. after 33 years of employment. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and served in the Navy on the USS Essex and USS Philippine Sea during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150, Burlington Moose Lodge No. 579, and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and country dancing. He loved his children and grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his wife Leona of Burlington; son Brian (Diane) Gibbs of Fort Madison, IA; daughter Diana (Rodney) Balmer of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren: Brent Gibbs, Brandon Gibbs, Brittany Gibbs, Abby Balmer Harris, and Heather Balmer; and one great grandson Dakota Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. The funeral service for Mr. Gibbs will be at 1:30 PM Friday March 16th at Lunning Chapel with the Reverend Sherri Swanson officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 8:00 AM until 8:30 PM Thursday in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM. A memorial has been established.
