Mary E. Getchell, 94, of Burlington, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Blair House Nursing and Rehab. Born March 10, 1916, in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred A. and Mary Ann Robinson Pomeroy. On June 29, 1937, she married Harold Wayne Getchell in Oskaloosa. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2007. Mrs. Getchell was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Philip L. (Marjorie) Getchell of West Burlington and Melvin D. (Judy) Getchell of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Wanda Marie Getchell Waterman and Sharon Kay Getchell; her parents; three sisters; four brothers; and one great-great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from noon until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Getchell will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 17th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First United Church of Christ and Blair House Nursing and Rehab.
