Wayne Getchell, 95, of Burlington died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2007, at Blair House. Born August 28, 1912 in Bemidji, Minnesota, he was the son of Edward Rolland and Clara May Springer Getchell. On June 29, 1937 he married Mary E. Pomeroy in Oskaloosa. Mr. Getchell was a graduate of Bemidji High School. He worked as a custodian for Burlington Community Schools for 12 years retiring in 1982. He previously worked for CB&Q Railroad and was an ambulance driver for Prugh’s. Mr. Getchell was a member of First United Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles from the Burlington Hawk Eye. Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Getchell of Burlington; two sons, Phillip L. (Marjorie) Getchell of West Burlington and Melvin D. (Judy) Getchell of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. His parents, two daughters, Wanda Marie and Sharon Kay, five sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
