James "Jim" Clinton Geren, 68, of Burlington, died at 6:50 PM Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born May 5, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Joseph Clinton and Ruth Mary Kreuzenstein Geren. He married Susan Klein and later divorced. He married Sherry Suchy and later divorced. On May 30, 2004 he married Susie Louise Ebbesmier in Burlington.
Jim worked as a car salesman.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1965 and attended college at the University of Iowa for three years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Fluent in Vietnamese, he served as a Counterintelligence Agent during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, life time member of the VFW post 10102 and post 2732 , and the DAV. He enjoyed fishing, socializing, spending time with family and friends, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Washington Redskins.
Survivors include his wife, Susie; one son, Benjamin Geren of Marion; two step-sons, William Dickens of Rock Island, IL and Shae (Lisette) Hoschek of Roswell, GA; two daughters, Elizabeth Goldring of England, Andrea (Bob) Gerst of Mediapolis; three step-daughters, Stephanie (Steve) Stuecker of Danville, Shelley (Matt) Weinstein of Rosewell, GA, and Samantha Hoschek of Nashville, TN; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Geren of Burlington; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St.
Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the visitation.
The memorial service for Mr. Geren will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Burlington Notre Dame High School and St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
