Robert "Bob" Gerdner, 97, of Burlington, died at 2:40 pm Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born January 20, 1915, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of William Henry and Rachel Drumm Gerdner. On November 4, 1939, he married Helen Smith in Burlington. Bob worked as the Des Moines County Supervisor from 1970-1978, and then for the Burlington School District in the transportation department for 10 years, Lagomarcino and Group Company, and Don Pease company. Bob was best known for owning and operating Bob's Stagecoach Inn. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an active member in the First United Methodist Church men's group, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150, American Legion Post 52, and 40 and 8 club. He enjoyed creating works of art with needlepoint, stained-glass, and woodworking. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and had a passion for gardening. His greatest joy was attending the events of his entire family and visiting with people. Survivors include wife, Helen; one son, Donald (Donna) Gerdner of Burlington; one daughter, Marjorie Miller of Bloomington, IL; five grandchildren; Neal (Stacey) Gerdner, Ron Gerdner, Christina (Robert) Reese,Carrie (Eric) Fisher, and Michael (Jennie) Miller, seven great-grandchildren; Austin Gerdner, Landon Gerdner, Katelynn Gerdner, Olivia Gerdner, Jordan Reese, Tyler Fisher, and Zac Fisher, two brothers, Richard (Edna) Gerdner and William Gerdner both of Burlington; sister, Ruth Fisher of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen and Myrtle, and one son-in-law, Marvin. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM Friday, January 27, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Robert will be 1:30 PM Friday, January 27, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Orthel officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church Stain Glass Window fund and Des Moines County Humane Society..
