Norma M. Gerdes, 97, of Burlington, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at her home. Born Sept. 13, 1910, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ernest H. and Mathilda Pietzsch Gerdes. Ms. Gerdes was a registered nurse, working at Surgeon's Inc. for 30 years. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington Jr. College and Evanston Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston, Ill. She also completed a six-month postgraduate course in surgery at John's Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, their Women's Fellowship and Mission Circle, and the Jane Delano Society. Survivors include one nephew, Neal Gerdes of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two great nieces, Lisa Norris and Kim Wright, both of Knoxville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one nephew. There will be no visitation. The funeral for Ms. Gerdes will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Memorials have been established for Hope Haven and Love Fund at First United Church of Christ.
