Obituary
Whitney A. (Duke) George, 60, of Burlington, died at 1:05 PM Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. She is now at home with her Lord and Savior.
Born July 23, 1952, in California, she was the daughter of Dale and Marilyn Higdon Duke. On May 30, 1981, she married Gregory George in Burlington. They later divorced.
Whitney was the secretary at Parkside First Baptist Church for over 10 years, prior to that she had worked for Tom's Market & Meats for 10 years
She was a 1970 graduate of Burlington High School. Then went on to graduate from Hawkeye Institute of Technology for photography.
She was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church, where served on various boards, and was a past member of D.A.R. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and her two cats, Chip and Ellie. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes football fan. Her greatest enjoyment in life was being a mom. She was always involved and helped out with whatever activities her son Jeffrey was involved in.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey (Rachel) George of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Judy Duke of Roselle, IL; and niece, Marilyn Duke of Lansing, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dale.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013, at Parkside First Baptist Church where the family will receive friends.
The memorial service for Whitney will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013, at Parkside First Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Carleton officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall at Parkside First Baptist Church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Parkside First Baptist Church and Des Moines County Humane Society.
