Opal L. Kerschner, 83, of Clinton died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton. Born April 26, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward and Della Hardesty Armpriest. On June 24, 1944, she married James W. Gentry in Burlington. He died on December 7, 1959. On May 11, 1969, she married Virgil L. Kerschner in Lomax, IL. He died on January 2, 1997. Mrs. Kerschner was secretary for First Christian Church and for Burlington School District. She served in various school and church offices. She was president of Saunderson PTA and was affiliated with the First Christian Church. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, and knitting. She also belonged to a pinochle club for more than 15 years. She enjoyed making meals for large family gatherings. She is survived by one daughter, Connie J. Gentry of Calif.; two sons, Michael Gentry of Camanche, and Edward Gentry of Fairfield; two step-children, Ramona Gonzalez and Virgil Kerschner of Iowa; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one infant brother, and three sisters. Visitation with family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel. The funeral services for Mrs. Kerschner will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Tom Smith officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
