Cheryl Gentry, 58, of Oakville, died at 9:32 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 3, 1959, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Emmit Tate and Emma Mae Jonkins. On April 24, 2010, she married Bill Gentry in Muscatine.
She worked as a housekeeper. She was employed at Metropolitan Water Reclamation in Chicago, IL, then Brockway and Winegard in Burlington.
She enjoyed gaming, BINGO, cards, watching Animal Planet, scary movies, and going to the CASINO. Cheryl also enjoyed fishing and walking her pets. She enjoyed playing softball, and was a fan of all Chicago sports.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Gentry; two sons, Wardell Brown of Decatur, IL, Daniel Gentry of Burlington; grandson she raised, Avvarri Jones of Oakville. seven daughters, Rebecca Brown of Burlington, Iquittia Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Aisha (Jerome Dobbey) Curry of Muscatine, Anna (Red Johnson) Fredericks of Chicago, IL, Melissa Gentry of Burlington, Hillary Gentry of Burlington, and Debbie Gentry of Oelwein, IA; five brothers, Andrew Burdine of Chicago, IL, Robert "Tony" (Patricia) Brown of Chicago, IL, Frank Tate of Chicago, IL, Emmit "Tate" (Brenda Blair) Brown of Burlington, Anthony Tate of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Betty Howell of Chicago, IL, Phyllis Smith of Des Moines; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Wayne Bryant, twin brother, Darryl "Dee-Dee" Brown, one grandson, Wardell Brown Jr., one granddaughter, Danielle Gentry, and two nephews, Emmit Danzy and David Jones.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM where the family will receive friends Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Cheryl will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
