Halcyon H. Gawthrop, 91, of Burlington, died at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born April 9, 1917, in Chariton, she was the daughter of Harley and Ethel Mundel Lee. On October 25, 1938, she married Walter William Gawthrop in Mount Pleasant. He died July 27, 1991. Mrs. Gawthrop retired from TRW, where she worked 23 years. She was a Chariton HighSchool graduate. She was a member of both First Presbyterian Chuch and First Christian Church. Survivors include one son, Dennis Lee Gawthrop of Burlington; one daughter, Debra J. Manush of Burlington; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Howard M. Lee of Fairfield. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. No visitation is planned. The graveside funeral for Mrs. Gawthrop will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
