Jamie Garrett, 65, of Burlington, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Nov. 27, 1934, in Gravity, she was the daughter of Stuart and Mildred Lock Jamison. She married the Rev. Laurence Garrett Aug. 14, 1958, in Villisca. She was a 1953 graduate of Clarinda High School, and a 1956 graduate of Iowa Methodist Hospital as a registered nurse. Mrs. Garrett served as head nurse at the Hallmar Unit of Geriatric at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids from 1980 until 1985. She also served as instructor for nurses aides through Indian Hills Community College from 1985 until 1988. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist, the United Methodist Women and the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter P, recently serving as the chaplain. She and her husband served in several United Methodist churches in Iowa prior to 1996. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Joel Garrett and Alan Garrett, both of Burlington, and Tobin Garrett of Ottumwa; one brother, Bruce Jamison of Ankeny; two sisters, Joyce Garrett and Elynor Wagle, both of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may call from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sheagran Funeral Home. The funeral for Mrs. Garrett will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Grace United Methodist Church and to the nursing scholarship at Iowa Wesleyan College.
