Marjorie Kathryn Garnjobst, 91, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at her home. Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Sioux City, she was the daughter of James Henry and Ethel Summers Jordan. On Aug. 20, 1935, she married Jerome Geoffrey Garnjobst in Yankton, S.D. He died April 28, 1991. Mrs. Garnjobst and her husband established Jerry's Main Lunch in 1946, where she was active in management for more than 60 years, up to the last months of her illness. They also owned and operated Jerry's Drive-In from 1949-67. She lived in southeastern South Dakota most of her early years and moved to Yankton, S.D., where she graduated from high school in 1934. She frequently visited her extended family in Massachusetts, Utah, Seattle, and California, traveling alone well into her late 80s. She took trips with family to Mexico, Ireland, England, France, Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean Islands. She was a member of a sewing club for many years and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include three sons, Jim Garnjobst, Dick Garnjobst and Tom Garnjobst, all of Burlington; one daughter, Ann Trainor of Spencer, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, James Jordan of Napa, Calif.; and one sister, Patty Cristelli of Kirkland, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, one grandson and one sister, Jean Donahoe. Her body has been cremated. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The memorial service for Mrs. Garnjobst will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. There will be a private family inurnment at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Burlington Public Library, Des Moines County Humane Society and Great River Hospice.
