Ray Melvin Anderson, 85, of Burlington, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born February 23, 1920, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred Otto and Tillie Sophie Dove Anderson. On June 28, 1941, he married Dorothy E. Richter in Burlington.
Mr. Anderson was a general carpenter contractor.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 534 for 60 years, SE Iowa Builders Associatiion, Master Mason Member of Patriot Lodge No. 650 AF & Am Association, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, KAABA Shrine, American Legion, VFW and Disabled Veterans. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Joyce Buckles of Burlington; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Anderson of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; one sister, Evelyn Price of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, one infant son and one sister.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Anderson will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Church of Christ, with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by VFW Posts 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corp League and AmVets Post 29 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for First United Church of Christ and Hope Haven Area Development Center.
