Obituary
Donald R. Gaddis, 87, of Burlington, who is now with his wife and daughter, died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, in Danville Care Center. Born October 11, 1922, in Fairfield, he was the son of Maude Irene Heston. He married Zelma Hutton on January 29, 1945, in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death on June 15, 1996. Mr. Gaddis worked in production at IAAP for 37 years, 14 years as a foreman. He retired September 7, 1987. He was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling for years on the Plant League, playing fast pitch softball, fishing, playing golf, and loved to do woodwork. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and served in the National Guard. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Lynda) Gaddis and Calvin (Julie) Gaddis, both of Burlington; eight grand- children; 14 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers; and two half-sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma; a daughter, Diana Smith; his son-in-law, Mike Smith; and a half-brother. The memorial funeral service for Mr. Gaddis will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice. According to his wishes, the body of Mr. Gaddis has been cremated.
