Mrs. Esther Margareth Schroder, 93, of New London, died on her birthday, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Schroder was born January 22, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of John and Katherine Moehn Senn. On November 27, 1941 she married Jack A. Schroder in Burlington. He died November 15, 1981. She attended school in Burlington and was a member of the New London United Methodist Church. Before her marriage, she worked at Burlington Basket Company and later worked at IAAP in Middletown, as a sorter at Pioneer Seed in Mt. Pleasant, and worked in the café' in JC Penney in West Burlington, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the New London Chapter #440 Order of the Eastern Star, and New London VFW Post #7641 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, Zane Gray Westerns, watching Bob Barker game shows and Wheel of Fortune, cooking and baking especially during the Christmas season, eating at Napoli's Pizza and was an avid card player. She was very proud of her many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Koral (Guy) Fuson and Christine (Jordan) Olsen, both of New London, and Jeri (Billy) Willingham of Lone Jack, MO; ten grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Helms of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, J. Anthony Schroder and one daughter, Janene Luke; four brothers, three sisters and one sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 25, 2013 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jeff McPheron will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Friday morning at the chapel, and the family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A memorial has been established to the New London VFW Post #7641 Ladies Auxiliary and the New London Care Center Activity Fund.
