Mr. Charles Stewart Freyling Sr. 82, of Burlington, died at 10:04 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Great River Medical Center.
Born March 2, 1929 in Brandon, Iowa he was the son of John and Luella Bergstrom Freyling. On July 23, 1954 he married Roseanne Peterson. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1963. On October 2, 1981 he married Leona Murphy in Burlington.
Mr. Freyling was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for the city of Burlington for over 25 years, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Freyling was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Eagles Club, V.F.W. and AmVets. He was well know in the community and was a dedicated family man.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Freyling of Burlington; one son, Charles (Glena) Freyling Jr. of Burlington; one daughter, Teresa (Mark) Kirkpatrick of Burlington; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Freyling of Dubuque; two step sons, Joe (Linda) Kauzlarich of Colona, Illinois and Shawn Lewis of Columbia, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, John (Bridget) Freyling of San Antonio, Texas and one sister, Barbara Stout of Burlington.
His parents; first wife, Roseann; son, Mark Freyling; stepson, Jerry Kauzlarich; step daughter, Janice Kauzlarich; and two sisters, Pauline Lyons and Linda Marie Freyling preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends following Moose Rites at 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Mr. Freyling will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26th, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Hospital.
