Frances Julia Freitag, 95, of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Sunnybrook in Burlington. Born July 29, 1916, in rural LaHarpe, Ill., she was the daughter of Vernon Otis and Mattie Yula Hickman Anderson. On July 25, 1939, she married Wesley George Benkert in Ocean Park, Calif. He died Sept. 4, 1974. On June 18, 1983, she married Earle Bouquet Freitag. He died April 12, 2010. Mrs. Freitag was a homemaker and sold cosmetics for Younkers for 17 years, retiring in 1983. She moved to the Burlington area when she was 11 years old and graduated from Burlington High School in 1934. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle, Sarah Circle and United Methodist Women, and her church and church family were important to her. She was a member of Jazz Club, Elks and Retired Railroad Employees. She was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, the outdoors and people. Survivors include one sister, Maxine Lanning of Burlington. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, two sons and her parents. The funeral for Mrs. Freitag will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Orthel officiating. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church "Crowning Touch Stained Glass Window Fund." Lunning Chapel in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
