Earle Bouquet Freitag, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at Danville Care Center in Danville. Born June 20, 1920, in Burlington, he was the son of Earl B. and Edith B. Lindberg Freitag. On March 24, 1947, he married Emma Elizabeth Williams in New Jersey. She died March 12, 1982. On June 18, 1983, he married Frances J. Benkert. Mr. Freitag worked as a machinist and later in management for Burlington Northern Railroad until retirement. He served in the Navy as a Seabee in the European Theater during World War II, and was first trombone of the Navy Station Force Band at Camp Endicott, R.I. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Burlington Elks Lodge 84, Burlington Machinist Union, Jazz Club, Cast Bullet Association, and American Legion. He was a life member of V.F.W. and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed target shooting, playing jazz trombone, traveling and cruises. Survivors include his wife; one brother, Roy F. Freitag of Burlington; two sisters, Wanda J. Bouquet of Burlington, and Peggy Bailey of West Branch; nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mr. Freitag will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Orthel officiating. Lunch will follow at the church. Burial with military rites will be at 1:45 p.m. in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Burlington Elks Lodge 84, Des Moines County Conservation Dept. And First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
