John C. Fox, Jr., 81, of Burlington, died at 2:46 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born October 5, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Lulu Cain Fox. On May 20, 1951, he married Margie Louise Hamilton in Burlington. She died June 13, 2008. Mr. Fox worked 38 years as a power systems installer for Western Electric. He was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School, lettering in music. He served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, and a Major in Civil Air Patrol. He was a life-long member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, where he served as an elder emeritus. He was a member of Telecom Pioneers. He was a Life Scout, active in Air Scouts, and a member of the Order of the Arrow, all in Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying. Survivors include two daughters, Melodie Fox of Chicago, and Susan Miller of Burlington; one son, Jay Fox of Rolling Meadows, IL; two grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Leffler of West Burlington. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Fox will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, with the Revs. Tom Smith and Dean Benton officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ building fund.
