Obituary
Verna Virginia Flockman, 91, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Hospice Advantage, and surrounded by family members. Verna was always meticulous about her appearance, and never turned down an opportunity to head out on a shopping adventure. She was always very active volunteering at her church, helping in various supportive roles throughout her years in Burlington. For many years, she loved taking bus tours with friends, as well as cruising with her family. She spoke of her travels many times. She loved collecting angels and crocheting. Born on January 15, 1921, she was the daughter of Thomas and Jennie (Keys) Astleford Sr. She married Hubert S. Flockman on May 26, 1972 in Burlington. He died October 4, 1978.
Verna was a salesperson for Newton Manufacturing for 19 years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Kings Daughters. Survivors include her daughter; Shirley (Galen) Miller of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; niece; Patty (Tim) Huth of Bettendorf, IA; two great nieces; one great- nephew; two great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Jane and Mary, and one half-brother. The memorial service for Verna will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 27th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Cindy Johnson will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Advantage and may be left in care of Lunning Chapel. Verna was a very kind, generous woman, and will be greatly missed.
