Ray E. Fisher, 83 of Burlington since 1923, died at 11:03 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Great River Medical Center Born May 6, 1922 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, he was the son of Ray E., Sr. and Blanche C. Brolin Fisher. On February 15, 1947 he married Jeanette M. Sleater in Burlington. Mr. Fisher was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Burlington Junior College. He served in the Iowa State Guard during World War II. He worked as a quality supervisor at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 31 years, retiring in 1985 and also as an x-ray technician. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Kiwanis, and Keenagers. He was a RSVP volunteer since 1988 serving with the Welcome Center at the Port of Burlington and also volunteered at Great River Medical Center. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge, reading, boating on the river, and traveling – especially to his children's homes. He was an avid Cardinals fan. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette M. Fisher of Burlington; two daughters, Nancy (David) Wenstrand of Columbia, Maryland and Gretchen (Thomas) Reilly of Des Moines; two sons, Robert (Donna) Fisher of Surprise, Arizona and Timothy (Jacalyn) Fisher of Denton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Patricia Sill, Julie Wenstrand, Douglas Wenstrand, Brian Fisher, Kyle Reilly, Kera Reilly, and Kelly Fisher; three great grandchildren, Caroline Wenstrand, Andrew Wenstrand and Zachary Sill; one brother, Robert C. Fisher of Seattle, Washington and New York; one sister, Margery DuRoss of Seattle, Washington; and one niece and one nephew. His parents and one sister, Marian Rickett preceded him in death. Memorials have been established for Zion United Church of Christ or the donor's choice.
