Helen L. Sillick, 98, of Burlington, died at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington. Born Tuesday, December 7, 1909, in Batavia, Iowa, she was the daughter of George W. and Rachel Roberts Jager. On June 5, 1927, she married Ralph Caldwell in Batavia. He died November 25, 1949. On October 6, 1951, she married Robert A. Sillick in Harrison, Arkansas. He died October 19, 1995. During World War II, she worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She had also worked for the Burlington Instrument Company and Teidman Florist. She was a 1927 graduate of Batavia High School. She loved working crossword puzzles, playing the organ, playing cards, especially pinochle, working with flowers, and spending time with her family. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Caldwell of Burlington; one granddaughter, Nancy (Patrick) Quinn of Des Moines; two great-grandsons, Collin (Jackie) Quinn, and Brendan Quinn, both of Des Moines; one great-great-granddaughter, Madison Quinn, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard Caldwell, who died May 8, 2000, one sister, three brothers, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, with the family to receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Sillick will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice.
