Dean Ray Ferris, 81, of Fort Madison, died at 6:45 am Monday, January 7, 2013, at the The Kensington in Fort Madison. Born November 27, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of A. Ray and Martha Ruth Messler Ferris. In November, 1963 he married Virginia Carman in Burlington. They later divorced. He married Ruth Ann Jacobs Brookins in Biggsville, Illinois in 1970. They later divorced. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Dean worked for Fruedeger and Sweetheart Bakeries in Burlington and Dumsworth Bakery in Fort Madison. He attended Burlington Schools. He was a member of Fort Madison United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. In his youth he was a member of the Boy Scouts. Survivors include one son, Daniel Dean (Kimberly) Ferris of Viola, KS; one grandson, Grant Ferris; and his dear friends, the Mellinger family. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. As per Dean's request cremation has been accorded. Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory. The memorial service for Mr. Ferris will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Goodall officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established
