Obituary
Ms. Laurel Bertha Fabel, 92, of Burlington and formerly of Queens, New York died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born January 11, 1921 in Queens, New York she was the daughter of Otto and Christina Klein Fabel.
Ms. Fabel was a graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens. She was a receptionist and office worker for Aetna Insurance in New York City for 29 years taking an early retirement in 1971 to care for her mother.
Ms. Fabel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 211 in Long Island, New York and an avid bowler, enjoyed ballroom dancing, crocheting and loved the New York Mets. Her cheerful attitude and grateful heart will be missed.
Survivors include one nephew, Alan (Cyndy) Fabel of Burlington; one niece, Candace (Don) Batze of California; great nieces, Lyndsey (Adam) Melcher, Kim Batze and Tiffany Batze; great nephew, Aaron (Alicia) Fabel; and three great-great nephews and two great-great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Howard Fabel.
The Eastern Star service for Ms. Fabel will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 28th, at Lunning Chapel with the memorial funeral service immediately following. The Rev. Wayne Weissenbuehler will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Faith Lutheran Church.
According to Ms. Fabel's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and Burlington Wilbert Crematory.
