John H. Ewinger, 79, of 2025 Miller street, native and well known resident of Burlington, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Mercy hospital, following a 10 day illness. Mr. Ewinger was head of the John H. Ewinger Plumbing and Heating company for many years, prior to his retirement about 15 years ago. He learned the plumbing trade in Chicago, Ill. He was born in Burlington Feb. 29, 1861, the son of Henry and Katie Berg Ewinger. He was united in marriage to Ursula Johani, March 27, 1885. She preceded him in death in April, 1933. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Schlachter of San Diego, Cal., and Mrs. Ursula Fennel, Oklahoma, City, Okla.; one son, Wesley F. Ewinger of Burlington; one brother, William O. Ewinger of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Reif of Burlington and Mrs. Emma Kurrle of Dallas City, Ill. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled at Unterkircher's funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with interment in Aspen Grove cemetery.
