Obituary
James J. Ewinger, 79, of West Burlington, Dec. 9, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Feb. 23, 1919 in Ottumwa, he was the son of Wesley F. and Gertrude Vandolah Ewinger. On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Jean Hult in Burlington. Mr. Ewinger was a graduate of Burlington schools and the University of Iowa School of Business, and was a US Army veteran of World War II. He worked with his sister and two brothers at Ewinger Appliance in Burlington for many years until his retirement. He had the first TV set and antenna in Burlington. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington. His hobbies were music, flying and history. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael James Ewinger of Cleveland, and John Patrick Ewinger of Columbu s Junction; one grandson , one sister, Gertrude Ewinger Spitzer of Florida; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. There will be no visitation or service. The body of Mr. Ewinger has been cremated. The private burial of cremains for Mr. Ewinger will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Foundation and Alzheimer's Research. Contributions may be left after 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. today at Hass Funeral home. Hass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
