Helen K. Evans, 97, of Burlington, died at Burlington Care Center, Burlington, Iowa, on Friday afternoon, March 8, 2013.
Born on August 8, 1915 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of John F. and Mary M Baughman Butler. She married Earl Evans on August 29, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on January 3, 2005.
Helen worked at Tabor Burns, Eklund’s ladies clothing shop and then was co-owner of the Model Clothing with her husband Earl for 22 years. She taught Sunday School and was the Superintendent of Sunday School for many years. She was a Cub Scout den mother, former member of Eastern Star, Carthage Lake Club and Burlington Golf Club. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, cards, watching the Hawk Eyes, family and friends. She loved going to Hy-Vee to visit her friends. She was a member of First United Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, William “Billy” Evans and his wife, Marlene of Burlington, Iowa; two grandsons, Thomas Evans of Seattle, Washington and William “Billy” Evans II of Burlington, Iowa; one granddaughter, Anna of Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; five sisters; and three brothers.
Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.
The family will be present to greet friends in Prugh’s Chapel Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Hope Haven Area Development Center and First United Church of Christ.
