William "Bill" Emery Erickson, 91, Burlington, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Burlington Care Center in Burlington. Born February 9, 1917, in Basco, Ill., he was the son of Otto and Hazel Emery Erickson. On July 4, 1937, he married Minnie Mae Peterson in Burlington. She died April 4, 1998. Mr. Erickson worked at Sweetheart Bread Co. in Burlington for 25 years and at Iowa Ammunition Ordinance Plant in Middletown for 10 years before his retirement. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, the Burlington Lions Club and the Silver Singers. He enjoyed singing, reading westerns, doing woodworking and creating projects out of plastic. Survivors include one son, Kirk Erickson of Burlington; one daughter, Karen Byar of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Erickson and Otto Erickson both of Burlington; one sister, Roberta Connelly of Burlington; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and two sisters. A gathering of remembrance will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, where the family will receive friends. The body has been cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington.
