Obituary
A fall on his back porch Tuesday, July 22, proved fatal to 77 year old Bruce Engle of 315 Summer street, West Burlington. Mr. Engle died Wednesday in Burlington Memorial hospital. An inventor, he was vice president of Ace Enterprises. He was also a former machinist at the Burlington Northern railroad shops, retiring in 1962. The son of Fred and Addie Heffner Engle, he was born Sept. 11, 1897, at Wiota. He married Verbeaudah Morgan Feb. 6, 1917, at Atlantic. Mr. Engle was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and of the Railroad Veterans and MWA, and of the local and national organizations of Pensioners club. Surviving: the wife; two sons, James, US ambassador at Cotonou, Dahomey, West Africa; Arthur, West Burlington; a daughter, Dorothy Erickson, Los Gatos, Calif.; ten grandchildren, and three brothers, Walter, Lewistown, Idaho; Howard, Clarkston, Wash.; and Ross, Billings, Mont. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Lunning Chapel, Rev. John A. Frieboes, Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial to St. Paul church has been established.
