Kenneth John Almendinger Sr., 85, of Burlington, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born November 6, 1919, in Rock Island, Illinois, he was the son of David John and Bernice E. Mooney Almendinger. On November 28, 1940, he married Pauline Melba Peterson in Burlington. She died in 1993. Mr. Almendinger worked for J. I. Case in Burlington, owned and operated Kenny's TV and Appliance in Ft. Madison and later worked for Ewinger Appliance, doing TV repair in Burlington before owning Kenny's TV and Repair in his home. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, particularly trout fishing in Bennett Springs, Missouri. He also enjoyed going to his cabin on the Mississippi River and using the computer. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Granaman of Burlington; two sons, Kenneth Almendinger Jr. and David Almendinger, both ot Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Almendinger will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
