Peggy Ann Ell, 73, of Burlington, died peacefully Tuesday, February 16, 2016, surrounded by her family at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Born December 29, 1942, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Andrew and Dorothy Louise Nelson. On April 9, 1961, she married William Leo Ell in Mason City, Iowa.
Peggy was a homemaker, attorney and an avid volunteer.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1960. She attended Patricia Stevens Fashion School, Southeastern Community College, Iowa Wesleyan and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School all after only 5 1/2 years.
She was an active member of the Player's Workshop. She enjoyed reading, collecting paper dolls and doll houses. She enjoyed vacationing in Sanibel Island, FL and she cherished time with her family in her back yard swimming pool.
Survivors include her husband, Bill of Burlington; her mother, Dorothy Louise Nelson of Burlington; one daughter, Tina (Dave) Wahlert of Anita, IA; four sons, Bill (Candace Collins) Ell, Jr. of Burlington, Tony (Joann Thomas) Ell of West Point, Bennett (Melissa) Ell of Burlington, Tracy (Wendy) Ell of Columbia, MO; ten grandchildren, Nick, Zack, Tanner, Alec, Matt, Brookelyn, Christian, Suzy, Kamryn, Rhoan; one great-grandchildren, Adalynn; one sister, Marilyn Bachtel of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, Beverly and one brother, Larry.
Open visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory. There will be no family visitation.
The Celebration of Life for Peggy will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. A time of food and friendship will be held at Big Muddy's where the family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
