Mr. James N. Elder, 84, of rural Burlington, died as a result of a mowing accident, Friday, July 31, 2015, at his home.
Born January 5, 1931, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Robert Henry Elder and Carol Pearl Roberts Elder Stamper. He married Twila E. Lipper on September 16, 1951, in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2006.
Mr. Elder was a Machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 plus years retiring in 1993. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was of the Protestant Faith and a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Elder enjoyed camping, Bluegrass music, and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Leslie (Lisa) Elder of Sperry, IA, and Bill (Karen) Elder of Mediapolis, IA; two daughters, Izetta (John Erb) Lane of Montrose, IA, and Brenda (John) Steele of Wyaconda, MO; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Twila Siner of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, stepbrothers and stepsisters.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 4th at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. A procession will proceed to the cemetery following visitation.
The graveside funeral service for Mr. Elder will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established.
