John W. Eland, 65, of 1917 Summer, was dead on arrival at Memorial hospital at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25. Mr. Eland retired from Continental Trailways, for whom he drove a bus for 31 years, earlier this year. He was the son of John and Ada Wagner Eland, and was born Dec. 18, 1907, in Des Moines county. He was married to Joan Grother on Jan. 4, 1950, at Davenport. Mr. Eland was a member of Grace United Methodist church. Surviving: The wife; a son, James J. Eland, Burlington, sister, Mrs. Florence Cady, Daville, and two grandchildren. Funeral: Friday at 1:30 at Prugh's Chapel, Rev. Laurence L. Garrett; Aspen Grove cemetery. A Heart Fund memorial has been established at the funeral home.
