Mrs. Marianna E. Eccles, 94, of Burlington, went home to be with her Lord and Creator at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born on January 13, 1920 in Burlington she was the daughter of Gustav and Elizabeth Linden. On March 4, 1939 in Kahoka, Missouri she married Jack Eccles. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2005.
Mrs. Eccles was a graduate of Burlington High School. She worked for Younkers and sold Avon products for many years.
She was currently a member of Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church and a longtime member of West Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Vacation Bible School and up to a year ago was involved in the Children's Ministries. Marianna loved sharing her faith and praying for people's needs. She loved Burlington, sitting by the river, camping, bonfires, planting flowers, writing poetry, card games, and crocheting little baby hats and booties for newborns.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Ruth Anne) Eccles of Cedar Rapids, Ron (Deb) Eccles, DC and Denis Eccles both of Burlington, three grandchildren, Jeremy (Harmony) Eccles of Kansas City, MO., Justin (Laurel) Eccles of Istanbul, Turkey, and Jessica (Jason) Rivera of Murrieta, CA; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Vincent, August, Gordon and two sisters, Saima and Dorothy.
The funeral service for Mrs. Marianna E. Eccles will be 10:00 a.m. Good Friday, April 18th at Lunning Chapel with Rev. Larry Dodds officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A luncheon will be served at Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church following services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church Missionary Support.
